What is moissanite?

Moissanite is a gemstone first identified in a meteor crater. The moissanite used in jewelry today is lab-grown rather than mined, which makes it conflict-free by definition.

It is not a diamond and not an imitation of one. It is its own stone, with its own optical properties.

How does it compare to a diamond?

Moissanite has a higher refractive index than diamond, so it throws noticeably more fire — more coloured flashes rather than white sparkle. It sits at 9.25 on the Mohs hardness scale against diamond's 10, which is harder than sapphire and more than durable enough for daily wear over a lifetime.

The practical difference is price. A stone that would cost several thousand dollars as a diamond costs a few hundred as moissanite.

Will people know it isn't a diamond?

Not by looking. At a glance, and in most lighting, the two are difficult to tell apart. Someone holding both side by side may notice moissanite throws more rainbow flashes. A jeweller with a tester will know immediately.

We think that is fine. Moissanite is not pretending to be anything.

What is a GRA certificate?

A GRA certificate documents the stone's colour and clarity grade. Our engagement rings are graded D colour, VVS1 clarity — colourless and eye-clean. The certificate ships in the box.

What are the settings made of?

S925 sterling silver, platinum plated on most designs. Sterling silver tarnishes over time and polishes back with a silver cloth. That is normal and reversible.

What ring size should I order?

Rings are sold in US sizes 5 to 9. Sizes 6 and 7 are the most commonly ordered.

A ring should slide on with light resistance and take a small tug to come off. If you are between sizes, size up — fingers swell in heat and later in the day.

Can I have it resized?

We do not offer resizing, so please choose carefully.

Eternity bands and full-pavé rings cannot be resized by any jeweller, because the stones run the entire circumference of the band. Take particular care with those.

I'm buying a surprise. How do I get the size right?

Borrow a ring she already wears on that finger and have a jeweller measure it. Failing that, size 6 and 7 cover most people — and our thirty-day return policy covers the rest.

A ring that is slightly loose is wearable while you exchange it. One that will not pass the knuckle is not, so size up rather than down if you are guessing.

How long does it take to arrive?

Orders are processed in 1 to 4 business days, then take 7 to 15 business days to arrive.

If you are buying for a specific date, order at least six weeks ahead. We cannot promise a delivery date and would rather say so than have you find out late.
